TGIS! By Neha Gupta, Delhi, India
You might be wondering what on earth this TGIS means. Before I answer this question, I want to ask, “Are you familiar with TGIF?” It means ‘thank god it’s Friday’. But somehow TGIS – thank god it’s Saturday – sounds more appealing. Now, what’s so special about Saturday? Well, on Saturday, we get a new issue of 4IW. I’m sure my readers would be thinking that 4IW has been coming up with new issues on Saturdays from quite some time, then what’s so thrilling about it? Let me tell all my wonderful friends that if we talk about this particular issue, it is certainly special. Why? Because it’s the first birth anniversary of our dear 4IW today. Yes, this web magazine is one year old now. At this special occasion, it would be worth having a glimpse of the journey that 4IW has gone through in one year. The website had a humble beginning in April 2007 with a limited number of blogs. At that time, hardly a handful of writers knew about it. As time passed, more and more prolific writers associated with it and widened its orbit. The number of blogs increased and a few new categories were added, such as ‘Open Letter’, ‘Poetry’, and so on.
Of all the categories pioneered, ‘Serial Novel’ deserves a special mention. This category was a great step towards letting the writers fulfil their dream of getting their novel published and also being appreciated for the same. Also, it should not be noted that initially only two novels were published in this category, but later 4IW stretched its sphere to accommodate two more novels, making it a total of four, thus ensuring more quality reading material every week.
Few months back, the web magazine added another feather in its cap with the Discussion Board, DB as it is popularly called. Here all of us hailing from different cities and countries can get together and discuss, express ourselves, comment and even gossip on various topics.
The website has undergone a lot many welcome changes over the year. What has not changed is their professionalism which is reflected in their prompt reply to each and every single query, their discretion in moderation of comments, their efforts to protect the privacy of their writers and readers, and of course timely payments.
On the first birthday of 4IW, my mind instinctively goes back to the day when I got associated with it. That was in June 2007. I had just resigned from my previous company. Jobless, I was spending my days at home, fighting distress and anxiety. One day while searching for ‘work from home jobs’, I bumped into this site. They certainly appeared reliable and very different from others. I had a story with me. So I thought why not post it. To my surprise, it was selected. They made me regain the confidence I was fast losing, owing to the circumstances.
Today I’m just a couple of months short of completing my one successful year of liaison with this site. I still spend sleepless nights on Fridays, looking forward to the new issue the next day. Mostly on Saturdays, I’m in a jubiliant mood. And whenever someone asks me the reason, I have a standard reply, “TGIS!”
You echo my thoughts... Its so great to be published here and to interact with people like you, Suneetha, Chhaya, Jas, Chandita, Sucharita, Ila and many many others.

You are right, Neha. 4IW has given back to many of us our tottering confidence and a forum to express ourselves and then get paid for it.

Neha,
I was was surprised to know that 4IW is only a year old. The professionalism and the maturity of writers made me think it was much older and that I had just stumbled on it.
So here's wishing it a very very long life and lots of interesting reads.
