In Current Events - Cricket at IPL and my remembrances By VIDYA MANESHWAR NAIK, MUMBAI, INDIA

Change is the only constant. For the better or for the worst, wonder where we are heading for. May be, we are trying to make the world one great family and the family members waging a war against each other.

Just getting all the details right….

All IPL Teams
Mumbai Indians Captain: Sachin Tendulkar
Bangalore Royal Challengers Captain: Rahul Dravid
Chennai Super Kings Captain: Mahendra Singh Dhoni
Delhi Dare Devils Captain: Virender Sehwag
Hyderabad Deccan Chargers Captain: V.V.S. Laxman
Kolkata Knight Riders Captain: Sourav Ganguly
Mohali King X1 Punjab Captain: Yuvraj Singh
Jaipur's Rajasthan Royals Captain: Shane Warne

For some, it doesn’t really matter, who’s in which team and how they came to be in their respective teams. But, it’s big league and a window to boost the game. Some feel that the IPL will damage international cricket, whereas some feel it will help foster better understanding between players and break all cultural barriers.

Cricket is unique. As I read somewhere, Cricket is the common code word for brotherhood. It is as entertaining as it gets.

I was fascinated to see little cricket-matches being played out in the streets across India. Street corners or long plains, beaches, small lanes in urban cities, every possible place is converted into a cricket pitch and the game is played. The sport has become a craze with Indians. Be it children or teens, adults or old, male or female,

We stayed at Boribunder, between The Times of India and the new BMC Building at our Government Quarters at Boribunder Station of Prohibition & Excise on Mahapalika Marg (then known as Council Road).Dad was the Deputy Commissioner of Prohibition and Excise.Quite a royal place.

The Azad Maidan was not very far. It was when I was a little girl, I remember going out there sometimes to play. On the way we stopped by to watch the guys in sparkling white, playing the great game since ages-Cricket. Our mouths would be wide open, watching the champion take his strike, his bat upright. There went the ball, high, high up in the sky, like a shooting star in the night.

I for one was always jumping to take part in everything. I even dreamt of playing cricket at CCI Club, Mumbai. The Wankhade Stadium did not exist then. I remember being to one of those matches at CCI. Yes, it was the English team led by Tony Greg against ours, led by Ajit Wadekar. I still have a hearty laugh when I remember the instance, when our little Gundappa Vishwanath hit a boundary, Tony Greg who was fielding nearby, just caught hold of him and cradled him in his arms. That was a real sight, never to be forgotten. Those were the days of great good rapport that rival teams had. Today you hear abuses flung at each other all over the field.

I still cannot forget the day in 1972, my first year in college, when my big brother got a single pass for a match at Wankhade. He allowed me to go and watch the 5 day Test match –India vs. West Indies. It was the East Stadium, with the sun all over me, but, the thrill of the game did not hamper my enjoyment. Such was the thrill of the game. That was the last live performance I have watched till date.

Today, however, I have not seen a single IPL match, and I do not know why??????
Cricket has changed its color- for good or for bad, I wonder!!!!!!!!!

Cricket in India is overhyped and totally unprofessional.

Why should these ill-mannered brats who are the members of the Indian team get paid so much when they can't even win one World Cup?

I really can't understand why Indians are so crazy about cricket. Our news channels talk about cricket day and night as if other issues dont matter.

    Hi friends,
Actually, I had written this before the ugly incident of Sreesanth and Bhajji took place. At ibibo.com, they have a section for the IPL and they had asked us to send something to be written on it.This writeup was meant for ibibo, but I thought I should send it to this site.Yes,I was lucky to convey my disgust about today's cricketers. It is actually the BCCI to blame as they had taken Bhajji's side against the Australians.Fame has got into their heads. When the world is a fool to watch and praise these 11 fools, who can help!!!!!!!!!!!!
