It was atrocious—how in the world was this possible.
Moi is with mum (who is hospitalized)—it’s quite funny though that even at times like this – we can laugh at certain situations in life. Moi is at a branded and a prestigious hospital—and guess who does moi have for company? A four legged creature—a tiny healthy (meaning to say—a furry creature--the mouse!) The mouse looks very much at home—watching the mouse silently peering at mom lying helplessly across the hospital bed, with tubes and all kinds of machines attached to her—moi realized that we were the ones who were actually encroaching its territory—which meant we were its enemies—and not the other way round.
Letting out a sniffled scream ---moi informed the nurse at the work station—about the uninvited guest present in our room rather about us having the company of the mouse. Returning to the room—moi realized that it was no longer visible to us. It probably was cursing us for all the noise that it was now being treated to—no wonder then it had come to inspect as to what was happening. Obviously this room belonged to the long tailed creature even though moi might be the one paying the room rent.
Well, folks this is the limit—don’t we all go to the hospitals hoping that proper care and treatment would be given to the patients admitted, that too think about the obnoxious deposits and payment that we do and in turn what do we get?—The least that moi is expecting is a clean room with the proper treatment that the patient requires and deserves. Trust one isn’t expecting the unwanted, persistent runner in the room—playing games around and scaring the wits out of moi—once thing that moi is pretty sacred about are the furry creatures that run around creating a havoc—as moi watched –it too silently was getting accustomed to us in the room. Now moi felt we were the unwanted guests here.
Obviously this room belonged to the long tailed creature—we were now encroaching its territory—so in fact we had to move out—period—not the other way round.
So folks, is this we get in hospitals? Crocks, rats and God alone knows what other creatures crawling all around us –without us being aware.
What kind of healthy atmosphere or environment do hospitals provide? Aren’t they supposed to be places where the sick get cured and not the other way? Hygienic —sterilized placed— germs free, etc, etc. Looking around-- moi wonders – are we safer at homes or at the hospitals—No doubt in the hospitals the doctors attend to the patients ASAP—so why douse the patients with doses of crocks, germs, and all kinds of unhealthy treatment. In such situations—will the patients get better or fall sick further. Let’s also not forget the temper tantrums that the doctors, nurses and the other hospital staff put up—all acting gods almighty! Moi does appreciate the good work that many a souls do but again at the same time—moi is forced to comment about the ruthless behavior of some. We pay and bear the scars and of course the ruthless treatment that one is given. The callous manner in which the patients are thrown around like bags of rags.
What does all this say?
I think it is the food that attracts all types of creatures in the hospital. It is easier to maintain if all the wards are indoors. But in hospitals where wards are sprawled all over with lot of trees around, you can expect any animal why only small ones?

That must have been a terrible experience! A hospital is the last place where pests should be found. I hope you brought it to the notice of the concerned authorities.

Hospitals always give me the jitters Jessie, for things like this and more scary reasons. Hope your Mum is better.

You are right. Its a pathetic situation. Good wishes for your mom's speedy recovery.
Although its not directly connected yet I'd like you to go through it.
i came across an interesting article by Mrinal Pandey in the newspaper Mint - 'In Praise of Shamans'that talks about why shamans are successful in India. Here's the link: http://www.livemint.com/2009/12/17211831/In-praise-of-shamans.html

Thankfully, I have never encountered such creatures during any of my visits/stays in hospitals although I can't say the same about the future after reading your blog. Can't imagine such insects and animals in a hospitals. It must have been difficult. Hope your mother is fine now.
